National Travel Association Travel Exchange

Earlier this month, the Wyoming Office of Tourism traveled to Reno, NV to attend National Travel Association Travel Exchange (NTA Trex). Wyoming continues to be a popular destination with the packaged travel industry, with more and more tour operators requesting new and unique itineraries. Wyoming was able to capitalize on this momentum by partnering with Nebraska to present an itinerary titled “Trails, Rails and Historic Tales” that highlighted the states’ shared history of the great western migration at a NTA sales mission with 20+ interested tour operators. The sales mission was well received, leading to more great discussions around off-the-beaten path opportunities. In addition to the sales mission, WOT met with 34 tour operators, many of whom are looking to expand their itineraries to explore more of Wyoming. Amy Larsen was also officially elected to the NTA Board of Directors and will begin in that role January 1st. She also served as a panelist alongside Fairbanks, AK, Savannah, GA and Sweden to discuss the challenges of marketing outside of peak seasons.

WOT was excited to be joined by several Wyoming partners: Visit Cheyenne, Carbon County, The Cody Cattle Company, Town Square Inns, The Buffalo Bill Center of the West, The National Museum of Wildlife Art and Triangle X. WOT and its partners are excited to continue to promote Wyoming as the top domestic packaged travel destination.

Upcoming shows:
Feb 4-7, 2023- ABA Marketplace, Detroit
March 29- April 1, 2023- NTA Contact, Cheyenne
June 11-13, 2023- TAP Dance, Rochester

Google Search Results increase visibility for destinations.

WOT's website improves the chances of your listing and event information being found on search engines results. Specifically, partners are more likely to be found on Google Search Results Pages, if they have a listing or event in the WOT Partner Portal.

In this case study we discovered the following:

Since January 1, 2022, travelwyoming.com has generated over 75,000 organic sessions for partners
Over 1,200 queries showing up on the first page of Google within the past 3 months
Visibility on Google means increasing visibility for your destination

Helpful Hints:

Partners that saw the most benefit had descriptive images with alt text, helpful descriptions, and
           links to social media platforms

Upload your events through the Partner Portal to qualify for Google's Event Rich Snippets and voice

search. "Hey Google, what events are happening in Wyoming?"

Coverage on haunted destinations and hotels played into the Halloween theme in October. Buzzfeed’s article on the “21 of the Best (and Scariest) Haunted Travel Destinations Across the U.S.” featured the Cheyenne Depot Museum and the three entities that allegedly haunt the building, including a woman in a black dress, a man who reportedly fell to his death while painting the top floor and an angry ghost. The story was syndicated to both Yahoo! and Newsbreak. Insider added the Historic Occidental Hotel & Saloon in Buffalo to its list of “The Most Haunted Hotel in Every State You Can Actually Stay at – if you Dare.” The ghosts of Teddy Roosevelt and a girl named Emily, who died of Cholera, are mentioned as two apparitions supposedly spotted at the property. Finally, the Irma Hotel in Buffalo made Thrillist’s piece on “The Creepiest, Most Mysterious Haunted Hotels in Every State,” explaining how visitors occasionally notice water faucets turning on and off and personal items moved around while sleeping.
